John S. Algeo Jr. ’35

JOHN ALGEO DIED of lung cancer at his home in Syracuse, N.Y., on July 9, 1993. He was one of our Mercersburg Academy contingent. At Princeton, he majored in economics and was a member of Cannon Club and the Triangle Club.

John was in the navy during WWII, spending a year in submarines in the Pacific and the balance of the war on D.E.s in the Mediterranean and in the Pacific. He ended as a It. commander at Okinawa.

After the war he became V.P. of Fonda Motor Co. of Syracuse for five years, then founded Algeo Manufacturing Co., primarily to make electric parts and components. In 1962, he sold his business and joined Loeb Rhodes as an investment broker, retiring in 1 977. He was a past president of the Syracuse Gyro Club and a communicant of St. David's Episcopal Church.

John and Suzanne thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years, which included lots of travel; winters in Florida; and summers with their boat, bass fishing on the St. Lawrence River. They also spent lots of time in Pasadena, where they had a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren. Add golf and tennis, and John felt he "could not think of a more ideal and happy life. 'Nuff said."

The class extends its deep sympathy to his widow, Suzanne; a daughter, Suzanne A. Schenck; a son John S. III; and three grandchildren.
