John S. Redpath ’33

JOHN REDPATH DIED Dec. 31, 1993, in Summit, N.J. He was born Jan. 31, 1911, in Maplewood, N.J. He prepared at Andover. In college, he was a manager of track; a member of Tower; and he roomed with Alan Metcalfe, Bill Lafean, and Bob Eberhardt.

John left college at the end of junior year and went to work for Ruthrauff and Ryan, before entering the insurance business. Most of his career was spent with Atlantic Mutual Insurance Co. of N.Y.C. In later years, he spent winters in Vero Beach, Fla.

During WWII, John served in the army. After special language training at Harvard, he went to Korea, where, as a captain, he served briefly as acting mayor of Taiden, Korea.

On Dec. 9, 1942, John married Marjorie jean Gill in Montclair. She survives, as do their two sons, John Jr. '66 and Gill, as well as John's brother, Fred '39.

John was one of the most loyal members of '33, attending Reunions, football games, and class luncheons, often with Marge. He was also a faithful reporter of news of classmates to the column in PAW. We will miss him. Our deep sympathy goes to Marge and to their sons.
