John Stetson Murdock ’44

Body

Born in Leicester, Mass., he attended Milton Academy, where he was active in track and wrestling. At Princeton, John majored in history, managed our wrestling team, and was a member of Charter Club. His roommates included Harry Seidel, Ray Dykema, Dave Ross, Chet Rice, Bill Brooks, Barney Holland, and Carl Barton.

Graduating in 1943, John was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Field Artillery and served 19 months in Europe as a communications officer. He had a long career in investment counseling, and was a member of the Princeton Club of New York and Ye Olde King’s Highway Stamp Club. All his family and classmates knew he had a passion for sailing and stamp collecting but that his special passion was for everything Princeton — reunions, football games, and the Class of ’44.

Besides Mary Anne, John is survived by two sons, Jay and Rob; two daughters, Betsy Myers and Missy Bauman ’83; and 10 grandchildren. All of us will deeply miss him.
