    John died April 8, 2023.

He prepared at Abraham Park High School in Roselle, N.J., where he participated in football, track, and publications.

He fulfilled pre-med requirements while majoring in electrical engineering. He was active in AIEE and IRE and a research assistant in electrical engineering. A member and treasurer of Elm Club, he participated in IAA hockey, squash, basketball, and softball.

John attended Cornell University Medical College. After interning and residency in surgery, two years of service in the Air Force Medical Corps, and marriage to Nancy Imlay in 1961, he undertook four more years of orthopedic training (“this seemingly perennial training which medicine has grown to be”). In 1965, they moved to Vermont and John opened a private orthopedic practice. Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he was a founding partner of Orthopedic Associates of Brattleboro. He served as president of the Vermont Medical Society in 1999, as attending physician at high school sporting events, and on the local school board and the Brattleboro Development Review Board.

John enjoyed skiing, whitewater canoeing, camping, and gardening.

John was predeceased in 2010 by Nancy, his wife of 61 years. He is survived by his daughter, Sara; sons Joshua and Burtis; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sister Susan.
