John died Aug. 7, 2026, at his home in Roseville, Calif., of complications from Parkinson’s disease.

He graduated from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, with Bill Faust and Charlie Snyder. They all came to Princeton and were roommates, together with John’s cousin Tom Popp. John majored in electrical engineering, joined Quadrangle Club, and was active in WPRB.

Upon graduation, John joined IBM in computer sales, working in Trenton and Honolulu before being sent to Saigon for three years. There he met Le Thi Tuyet, “Jackie,” whom he married in 1972. John next worked for several small companies in San Francisco before completing a two-year M.S. program at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

Accepting an offer from Hewlett-Packard, John stayed for 22 years, following that with eight years at Agilent Technologies. With HP’s encouragement to participate in the community, John was elected to the Los Altos (Calif.) School District board of trustees, and then city council, serving two years as mayor. On stepping down, he was elected president of the Los Altos Rotary Club.

Upon retirement in 2007, John and Jackie moved to a retirement community in Roseville, where they entertained their neighbors with Jackie’s fabulous Vietnamese cooking. They have two daughters, Rhoda and Jennifer, and five grandchildren. Their daughters were teenagers before meeting their relatives in Vietnam, to which John and Jackie returned many times.
