John W. Aitken ’27

JOHN "JACK" AITKEN DIED Oct. 22, 1993. Jack came to us from St. Paul's School. He captained our freshman crew, rowed varsity crew, and played freshman hockey. He was also president of Tiger Inn.

After graduation, he worked as a merchant, stockbroker, and realtor in N.Y.C., where he lived his entire life. In 1942, he enlisted as a first It. in the army air force supply corps in the South Pacific, winning four battle stars and emerging as a major in 1945. After the war, he became secretary treasurer of Jas. D. Landauer Associates, Inc., N.Y.C. real-estate consultants. He retired in 1962.

John's family contained many Princetonians, including grandfather John W. 1869 and father, John 101. He was married to Madeleine McPartland in 1931, and in 1952, after her death, to Lillian Drummond. He remained a widower after her death in 1967. He is survived by his son, John 11, and one grandson.

He had been in reasonably good health, though on a walker. Five days before his death, he told his son: "I always wished I could have gone to Alaska and the Vatican. When my time comes, I want to go quickly." His wish was granted, as he died of an aneurism. To John, to whom we are indebted for this memorial, the class sends sympathy and mourns a colorful classmate,
