JOHN WALTON THOMPSON DIED July 25, 1993, in Richmond, Va. Born Sept. 11, 1939, in Richmond, he came to Princeton from the Douglas S. Freeman H.S. At Princeton, John was active in Whig-Clio, Triangle, and the Orange Key Guide Service. He was a member of Colonial and his thesis for the Woodrow Wilson School was titled "Massive Resistance in Virginia." His senior year roommates were Toby Nelson, Bob Golden, and Dave Wharton.
John entered navy O.C.S. right after college and
then attended the U .Va. Law School after three years of active duty. He remained in the reserves, however, rising to the rank of captain and retiring in 1991. He left law school early, joining the retail-furniture and interior-design business that his father had founded in 1949. At his death, he was president and general manager of the company, serving also on the boards of the Retail Merchants Assn. of Greater Richmond and the Southern Home Furnishings Assn.
John is. survived by his widow, Lillian Duncan "Lilli," whom he married in 1979, and his parents, Jack and Lottie. We join them in their grief.
