John Warren Unger ’44
JOHN PASSED AWAY Sept. 11, 1991, after a long fight against lung cancer, a struggle begun with the removal of his left lung in 1979, Graduating from Princeton as an electrical engineer, he worked briefly in radar research and with G.E. before redirecting his life toward medicine. He earned a medical degree at Western Reserve. Much of his career was as a medical underwriter with C.N.A. Financial Corp.; notably he was the first physician in the U.S. to become a chartered life underwriter. He never lost his interest in engineering and mathematics. He was working on a math project at his death. John kept close ties with our Class. His wife of 43 years, Jackie, wrote that one if his fondest memories was attending our 40th with John Jr., there for his tenth. To Jackie, his daughter Henrietta, John Jr. '74, and to his two grandsons, we extend our deepest sympathies and mourn with them the loss of this thoughtful, gentle man. 'God bless and rest him.
