John W.R. Creighton ’32

Body

THE CLASS LOST another loyal classmate when Jack Creighton died on Nov. 21, 1994, at the Univ. of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He suffered a cardiac arrest caused by complications from recent heart surgery.

Jack started in business as an accountant in the mortgage department of Prudential Insurance Co., where he served until 1939. After another brief business connection, Jack spent four and a half years in the Army Finance Corps, with assignments in India and Burma during WWII. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal, and retired from the service in 1946 as a lt. colonel.

After the war, Jack entered the banking business. He started with Irving Trust Co., then went to Pittsburgh to work for Fidelity Trust Co. In due course, he became a v.p. of Pittsburgh Natl. Bank. He retired in 1974.

He was prominent in community and civic activities in the Pittsburgh area, serving as treasurer of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania and as president of the Pittsburgh Club and the Western Pennsylvania Heart Assn.

Jack is survived by his widow, Suzanne; two daughters, Emma Dieffenbach and Susan; his son, John; and three grandchildren. We mourn with them the loss of this fine gentleman.
