Jonathan Bernstein ’82

Body

OUR CLASS mourns the loss of Jonathan Bernstein, whose promising young life ended Oct. 28, 1991, in Tenafly, NJ. Although born in Manhattan, to Dr. Robert Bernstein and the late Frances Bernstein, a highly respected law partner and community leader, the family moved to Tenafly. After graduating with highest honors from Tenafly High School, Jon enrolled in Princeton's electrical engineering and computer science department and was an active member of Tiger Inn.

After graduation Jon went to work with the Bendix Corp., where his enthusiasm and inventiveness brought him rapid advancement. Yet, this work was not enough. Remembering his family's yearlong stay in Israel, when his father was on sabbatical leave from Columbia Univ., Jon had a desire to return to Israel. in 1984 he accepted a twoyear assignment there with a major electronics company. After completing his contract, Jon remained as an electronics and computer consultant. in 1986 he invented an ultrasonic angioplasty technique, using sound waves to unblock arteries. He founded a company to perfect and commercialize the technology, and a few years later he moved the company to the U.S. to obtain the necessary investments. Jon also founded a desktop publishing company in Israel. Both companies continue to operate.

Our sincere sympathies go to his widow, Oriah; his father; his stepmother, Carol; his brother Joseph '84; and his sister Rachel '87. Contributions in Jon's memory may be sent to the Israel Cancer Research Fund, 1290 6th Ave., N.Y.C.
