THE NEW YORK TIMES said of Joe Ferrer, after his death in Coral Gables, Fla., on Jan. 26, 1992: "Versatility ' intelligence and longevity were the hallmarks of his extraordinary career." Bert Brush, who roomed with Joe when they were in graduate school, says that his career in the theater began with the Triangle Club.

Joe was horn Jan. 9, 1912, in San Juan, P.R. His family moved to N.Y.C., where he attended private schools, with a final year at Le Rosey in Switzerland. He entered college with the Class of '32, but repeated senior year and graduated with '33 Ile felt very close to both classes. In our senior year he was well known on campus for his dance band, "Jose Ferrer and the Pied Pipers." Joe's first marriage was to Phyllis hill. They had one daughter, Leticia Thyra Ferrer. His second marriage was to Uta Hagen. He and third wife Rosemary Clooney had five children: Rafael Francisco, Miguel Jose, Gabriel Vicente, Maria Providencia Ferrer, and Monsita Teresa Botwick. He is also survived by his widow, the former Stella Magee; by eight grandchildren; an by two sisters and a halfbrother.

The Class of '33 has lost a greatly valued member. We express our deep sympathy to all the family.
