Though Joe was born in East Orange, N.J., in September 1926, his hometown was Llewellyn Park. N.J.

He came to us from The Hill School. He spent his undergraduate years with fractured classes and friends in various classes and graduated in 1948 with a degree in psychology. Because of a childhood illness, Joe had lost most of his hearing. Nevertheless he had played squash and hockey at Princeton and became a nationally ranked junior tennis player.

Joe’s first job after college was with the family’s Alderney Dairy Co. in Parsippany, N.J., which he later headed. After the company was sold in 1972 he became a stockbroker with Spencer Trask & Co., and retired in 1982.

The family relocated to East Hampton, Long Island, N.Y., where they had always summered. In East Hampton Joe became a volunteer at Meals on Wheels and continued playing tennis and golfing, both on Long Island and at clubs in New Jersey and Jupiter Island, Fla.

Joe and Nancy (Pardue), who had married in East Hampton in 1959, were together for 60 years. Toward the end, they moved to Duxbury, Mass. Joe died June 12, 2019. He was 92. Nancy survives him, as do their children, Hillary and Daniel, and four grandchildren.
