Joe died Aug. 9, 2013.

Joe graduated from Princeton with honors in economics in 1947, received a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1950, and earned a Chartered Life Underwriter designation from the American College of Underwriters in 1953.

Joe specialized in design and administration of employee-benefit plans. He served as president and chairman of New England Compensation Planning, president of New England Consulting Group Inc., and president of Physicians Insurance Plans Agency Inc.

After his retirement, Joe had three goals: ski the high mountains of the West, go to China, and buy a sport boat. He accomplished all three. Joe and his second wife, Pauline, continued to travel and produced a slide presentation of their travels around the world. He had a vacation home at a club in Harbor Springs, Mich., where he could use his new sport boat.

Joe is survived by Pauline, three daughters, two sons, and six grandchildren. The class extends its sympathy to the family.
