JOSEPH R. PERKINS JR., aged 80, died Jan. 24, 1992, in Newark, Del. A Princeton Graduate School alumnus electrical engineering, he had a long and distinguished career as a research engineer for General Electric Co,, as a teaching fellow in physics at M.I.T., and as a technical specialist for the DuPont Co. in a variety of areas. During WWII he became involved in the radiation laboratory at M.I.T. and was appointed secretary of the Vacuum Tube Development Committee with the N.D.R.C. and subsequently was involved with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Born in Richmond, Va., Mr. Perkins earned his undergraduate degree and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the Univ. of Richmond. He was a prolific author of technical publications in his several areas of expertise, which also included product and market development.

He is survived by his widow, Margo; three sons, Joseph, Robert, and William; a daughter, Eleanor; a stepson; a stepdaughter; and nine grandchildren. Sincere sympathy is extended to his family and friends.
