Juan Manuel Lopez ’22

Body

ON MARCH 22, 1990, the Class lost Juan Manuel Lopez in Fort Myers, Fla. He was a quiet, steady, and faithful friend. Born on Feb. 10, 1899, in Trenton, N.J., he prepared for Princeton at Donaldson and Lawrenceville. For about 20 years he was manager of the general book department of the Princeton Univ. Store, leaving there in 1942 for a lt. commander's rank in the U.S. Navy. After his naval service he was associated with the U.S. Veterans Administration. He then attended the General Theological Seminary, and in 1953 became a priest in the Episcopal Church. He served as rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Pitman, N.J., for 13 years. He then moved to Fort Myers, Fla., where he assisted at St. Hilary's Episcopal Church and, after assisting in the start of a mission church on Pine Island, helped with the building of an all-purpose church building. He retired as missioner emeritus at the age of 82.

He married Annette Bayles of Princeton in New York in Aug. 1921. She died in 1986. He is survived by two brothers. To them we send our sincere sympathy.
