Julian M. Harrison ’40

Julian died peacefully Dec. 8, 2009, at his Atlanta, Ga., home with his loved ones around him.  

He prepared at Northfield and Episcopal high schools. At Princeton, he majored in economics and was a member of Charter Club. He served as a Navy lieutenant in the Pacific during World War II.  

Julian enjoyed a varied business career. Automobiles were his first love, and he started with ownership of a Ford-Mercedes dealership in Rome, Ga. He also served as president of the Atlanta Tool Co., Harrison Investment, A&N Development, and Julian Harrison Finance, as well as director of Green Acres Poultry Farm. He was a board member of the YMCA, Boys’ Club, and Rotary Club, and was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Rome. He received numerous awards and recognitions over the years.

Julian was vice president of the Princeton Alumni Association of Georgia, serving on the schools and scholarship committee. Golf, travel, and photography were his hobbies.

He married Emmalyn Carter in 1941, and they later divorced. He is survived by their children, Julian III, Emmalyn, and Benjamin. His second wife, Sybil, preceded him in death. He also is survived by Sybil’s children James, Sybil, and Marshall; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. To them and their extended families, Julian’s classmates extend their heartfelt sympathies.
