Body

JUSTUS COOLEY, known to his classmates as "Judge," died Oct. 27, 1993, at the Woods Edge Care Center in Bridgewater, N.J., thus ending a distinguished career in medicine.

After graduating from Princeton, Judge obtained his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1937. He served his internship at Orange Memorial Hospital and his residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. In 1943, he joined the army in the medical corps, and after a year at Camp Hood in Texas, he was sent to North Burma as the eye, ear, nose, and throat chief at Evacuation Hospital Number 48. He received the Bronze Star after the battle of North Burma, and left the army in 1947 with the rank of captain. Shortly thereafter, he became chief of E.E.N.T. at Somerset Hospital in Somerville, N.J., succeeding his father in that position,

Judge practiced medicine in Somerville for over 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was president of the staff of the Somerset Medical Center, and he also served on his local township planning board.

Judge is survived by his widow, Josephine; three sons, Justus Henry 111, Jonathan R., and Jeremy P; his daughter, Jo Ellen Sweeney; and eight grandchildren. To all of them, the class extends its sympathy and expresses its pride that this outstanding physician was one of us.
