Karl M. Houser Jr. ’48

Body

KARL HOUSER died May 15, 1993, after a long struggle with emphysema.

Karl came to us by way of Haverford School, Episcopal Academy (in Merion, Penn.) and the V. 12 program at Williams and Brown. He majored in biology, enjoyed singing with several groups, and holding forth at Colonial. Along the way, Karl roomed with Doug Raymond and Wally Wallace (both of the Class of '50). Bob Wagner '50 remembers Karl having great expertise as leader of expeditions to Vassar.

His early career was at Sharples Corp. in Philadelphia and later as sales manager with Photovolt Corp. in NYC. He retired in 1982.

For years Karl was an avid sailor, especially active at the Shrewsbury Yacht Club. In more recent years, he doted on his grandchildren, cheered Princeton football teams, and developed expertise in photography and woodworking. Karl was an avid gardener with a sure green thumb when it came to pepper and tomatoes.

Karl married Sherry Conolian in 1972 and she survives him. His brother, L. Murray '51, predeceased him. Other survivors are sons Bradford '79, Randall, and Geoffrey; daughter, Kristin; and nine grandchildren. To them, the class offers its deepest sympathy and shares in their loss.
