Rick died Feb. 15, 2016, in South Hero, Vt.

At Princeton he majored in English and was active in Orange Key and the Undergraduate Schools Committee, eventually serving as its chairman. He took his meals at Cottage and roomed senior year with Joseph Toot and Peter Williamson.

After graduation, Rick served in the Marine Corps for nine years, first on active duty, then in the Reserve, eventually retiring as a major. While it was not his original intent, Rick spent his professional life in the banking industry. He worked for two decades at the Connecticut Bank and Trust Co. in Hartford, rising to the position of executive vice president. Subsequently, he was president and CEO of the Bank of Vermont and Liberty Bank in Middletown, Conn.

Rick headed United Way campaigns in Connecticut and Vermont and served as director of the Northern Vermont Red Cross, the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce, and the Middletown Foundation for the Arts, among others. He was an avid tennis player, a private pilot, and a carpenter. For 30 years, Cedar Island in South Hero, Vt., was his joyful retreat.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara O’Reilly; son Kendrick III; daughter Catherine; and granddaughter Emily. The class sends its condolences to them all.
