Kenneth Lockhart Phillips ’45

KEN PHILLIPS died Nov. 3, 1991, in Ft. Lauderdale, although he was a resident of Edgewater Park, N.J.

Ken entered Princeton from Mercersburg arid quickly developed a reputation as one of our foremost musicians, playing in the band and in the Triangle Club orchestra. This musical avocation continued throughout his life; he was a charter member of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra and its firstchair Frontbone. In lighter moments fie was musical director of the Newtown Mudcats, an amateur Dixieland group.

Ken served with the Marine Corps as an officer in both WWII and Korea, serving in the South Pacific, the invaSion of Okinawa, the Solonion islands, and in China.

After obtaining his Princeton degree, he married the former Jeanne Marvin, and they had three children. Jeanne died in 1978, and, in 1985. Ken married the former Dorothy Hentz Whitehead, who survives.

Upon graduation, Ken joined the family business in Burlington County, N.J., becoming president of C. Harry Price, Inc., it dealer in fuel, building Supplies and hardware. Ken was it director of the First Fidelity Bank Of South Jersey for over 30 years. I le wits very active in his community, its I member of tire board of the Burlington Co. Chamber of Commerce, a past president of tire Burlington Rotary Club, .I Mason, an Elk, arid as a member of the American Legion. lie was treasurer and a member of the board Of trustees Of St. Mary's Hall. Ken served for many years as president of the Colonial Burlington Foundation and spearheaded the restoration of the historic Revell House in Burlington,

In addition to Dorothy, Ken is survived by three children, Patrice Phillips Gillespie, Stephen Lockhart, and Maitha Jeanne; two grandsons; a stepdarighter; and stepson; to whom the Class extends its deep sympathy.
