LEWIS SYLVENIER MAY died June 20, 1991, at his Park Avenue, N.Y., home. He was born Sept. 1, 1900.

Our Sylvester was an honored WWI veteran, having enlisted in the U.S. Army as a private in London in June of 1918 and having, prior to enlisting, served with the Red Cross Ambulance Service for one year in France and Italy. Once enlisted, Sylvester was sent to France unattached and was assigned to the army secret service. He was discharged on Jan. 11, 1919, wearing the Italian war cross, Italy Service medal, and the British General Service Medal, In WWII, he served with the N.Y. National Guard, keeping alive our great tradition of the citizen soldier.

Sylvester was a partner in May, Borg, and Co., one of the largest stock specialist units of the American Stock Exchange, He bought a seat on the New York Curb Exchange in 1927. In 1960, he was a member of a special committee that aimed to revamp the Exchange's governing body.

Sylvester is survived by his wife, the former Marion Friedlander; a daughter, Patricia Schwartz ; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The Class of 1923 shares their sorrow and their pride in the distinguished life of a true tiger.
