"STUT" HOLMES, of Winter Park, Fla., died on Aug. 26, 1989. He was born on Dec. 24, 1913, in N.Y.C. and prepared at St. Paul's, where he played football, hockey, and golf. At Princeton, he was a member of Ivy Club. He withdrew from the university in Feb. 1935.

Stut was long active in the management of magazines and newspapers and was a novelist. He was associate editor of THE POPULAR, editor/general manager of PIC magazine, director of publicity for the Greater New York Council of the C.I.O., and editor/publisher of the following: LIBERTY magazine, NIGHT AND DAY, the Goshen, N.Y., INDEPENDENT REPUBLICAN, Random House, and the U.P.L. NEWS ANNUAL He also edited the anthology MORE THAN A GAME and authored the novel A VERY SHORT WALK (both published by Macmillan).

He is survived by sons A. Lawrence Jr., Nicholas, and John; daughters Dorothy, Toni, Kate, Julia, and Elizabeth; 19 grandchildren; and sisters Ruth Bacon and Ann Neor. We are indeed sorry that many of us over the years had no contact with this talented classmate.
