Lee Mason ’36

Body

AT 79, LEE DIED Jan. 23, 1994, at his Summit, N.J., home, after a long illness. He graduated cum laude from the Providence (R.I.) Country Day School. While there, he set a new state record in the high jump and won prizes in tennis and golf.

Always to Lee's regret, he left Princeton after freshman year, in the Great Depression, to help in the family business, Mason Manufacturing Co. He then worked for Continental Can Co. for 32 years, serving in sales management positions in Boston, Chicago, and N.Y.C. He left Continental in 1970 to form his own firm, Lee Mason Co., a manufacturersrepresentative business. Shortly thereafter, this expanded

to Yankee Containers, a distributor of industrial containers located in North Haven, Conn. He was its C.E.O. until his death. Now two of his sons are the owners.

Lee is survived by his widow, Marie Cooke Mason, whom he married in 1940; sons David H., Robert H., and William G.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Anne Feiten.

Lee had great affection for Princeton and his class. He will be remembered for his enthusiasm and positive outlook on life.
