LEON BANAKAS died from complications of colon cancer on Feb. 13, 1992, at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

Leon, born Oct. 2, 1934, in Memphis, Tenn., attended Princeton for one semester. He also attended Southwestern College at Memphis, before entering the Univ. of Tenessee College of Medicine in 1955. Following his 1958graduation, Leon completed his internship and residency at the City of Memphis Hospital, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Between 1964 and 1967 he established a private practice in this field, while serving clinical instructor in the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Univ. of Tennessee College of Medicine. From 1967 to 1969, Leon was a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at Darnall Army Hospital, Fort Hood, Tex. After his military service, Leon moved to Saratoga, Calif., where he established his practice in OB/GYN with special interest in the problems of infertility.

While Leon's stay with us was brief, he always maintained an affectionate regard for Princeton. He is survived by his widow, Frances, to whom the Class extends its sympathies.
