Leonardo Bartolini *91

Bartolini came to the United States from Italy to study economics, and earned a Ph.D. from Princeton in 1991. He worked at the International Monetary Fund from 1990 to 1995 (and again on loan in 1998).

Bartolini joined the New York Fed in 1995 as an economist in the Foreign Research Department, and was made a senior vice president in 2002. He was head of the International Research division from 2000 to 2004. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Bartolini “was one of the bank’s most respected analysts of global macro-
economics and monetary-policy issues.” His most recent work dealt with cross-country differences in monetary policy implementation and market behavior.

The New York Fed took out an extensive paid death notice for Bartolini in The New York Times, signed by its then-president, Timothy F. Geithner, now secretary of the treasury.

Bartolini is survived by his wife, Jin, and his son, Lorenzo.
