Lewis F. Moody, Jr. ’32 *33
THE CLASS LOST a prominent member and loyal Princetonian when Lew Moody died Aug. 15, 1994. A long-time resident of Plainfield, N.J., Lew had lived in Hamilton Parish, Bermuda, since he retired.
Lew majored in engineering at Princeton and obtained his M.E. degree from the university in 1933. He then went to work for Chrysler as a Student engineer, receiving his M.M.E. degree in 1935.
In 1937, Lew joined Socony Mobil as an automotive engineer, and became associate head of automotive labs in 1942. After serving on several research council committees during the war years, Lew engaged in directing research and development of automotive lubricants, eventually becoming chief engineer. He later managed the automotive lubricants division, until he retired for health reasons.
Lew served the university as an advisory member of the mechanical-engineering dept., as an Annual Giving class agent, and as a schools committee member.
The class extends its profound sympathy to his survivors, who include Phebe, his wife of 60 years; two sons, Lewis F. III and William G.; a daughter, Phebe Ann ("Pam") MacNicol; and a nephew and several cousins who went to Princeton. His brother, Art '33, died in September.
