Lisa Hopewell ’79

THE CLASS OF 1979 sadly reports the death of Lisa Ala Hopewell, who was murdered in California, in Jan. 1991.

Lisa is remembered by family and friends as a dynamic person with many interests. She was very health conscious, participating in tennis and track in college She was a generous friend, as a classmate remembers Lisa driving her home in the middle of a rainy night to respond to a family emergency. As a student, she stayed connected to the outside world, especially devouring news about the business world and cultivating an aptitude for crossword puzzles. Originally a member of the Class of 1978, Lisa took off time to work in New York before graduating.

After college, Lisa began a promising marketing career in New York. Princeton lost touch with her during a period of great personal difficulty. According to newspaper accounts, she became involved with drugs and she bore a son, who is now living with her aunt in New York. Eager for a fresh start, she moved to Northern California, where her father and stepmother lived and sought help from Alcoholics Anonymous. She worked for Semicon Systems, a small hightech firm, and was caretaker for a condominium owned by a Semicon executive.

The Class extends sincere condolences to Lisa's mother and father, Mattie and Alan Hopewell, step-mother, Marilyn, aunt and son.
