Littleton Fox ’23

Body

WE LOST OUR HONORED classmate on Jan. 10, 1992, when Littleton died in Billings, Mont., the home town of his widow, Lois.

The son of Grant C. Fox '94, Littleton was born in Brooklyn on Aug. 28,1901. He grew up in Ridgewood, N.J. For his first year on the campus, Littleton roomed with his brother Sheldon '22. At Princeton, Little was a member of Whig Hall and belonged to Dial Lodge.

No member of the Class of 1923 had a more remarkable record of service during WWII. Little became a private in the Headquarters Company of the 204th infantry in June 1942; he was promoted to sergeant in October and to first lieutenant in December. He became captain in June 1943, major in Aug. 1944, and lieutenant colonel in Apr. 1946. He served in the judge Advocate General's office in Washington, D.C., and at Fort Dix and Fort George G. Meade prior to being stationed in Paris, France. Littleton was separated from the service in 1946. A 1923 Class Note stated, "it looks like six promotions in four years. Can anyone tie this?"

As a civilian, he earned his law degree at Columbia Univ. in 1927. He became a member of the law firm of Grant and Clark, where he later made partner, specializing in estates and trusts. He retired in 1985. He was happily married to Lois Knudson and spent summers on Cape Cod, where he indulged his love of golf, which, along with music, was one of his prime interests

Littleton is survived by his widow, who lives at Apt. 1913, 175 East 62nd St., New York, NY 10021, and his two nieces, Constance Lord and Virginia McClintic. The Class of 1923 is proud of Littleton and shares its sympathy with his widow.
