Lloyd Lowndes Friend III ’65

Body

Lloyd earned honors in freshman football and wrestling, served as an Orange Key guide, and was an enthusiastic member of Cannon Club. He roomed at various times with Jim Luke, Tom Curto, and John Pieper.

Lloyd and Pattie married after graduation, and he accepted a position at Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where he taught biology and chemistry and coached football and wrestling. After four years at Cranbrook, Lloyd joined AT&T Bell Labs, where he remained until retiring in 2001 as director of human resources at AT&T.

In recent years, Lloyd was in considerable pain, yet he retained his uncomplaining disposition. During the last few years, his brother, Bob, and Bill Misata, his Princeton friend of 47 years, spent time with Lloyd.

Lloyd was a gentle man who, in an unassuming way, demonstrated how to face the adversities of life with grace. The class extends most sincere condolences to Pattie; their sons, Patrick and Biff; Lloyd’s brother, Bob; and his many friends and family here and in England.
