Luther Goodrich Jones ’17
LUTHER JONES died at College Station, Tex., on Jan. 19, 1990. He was born in Temple, Tex., on Feb. I, 1894, and attended Terrill School in Dallas. His father was in the Princeton Class of 1883. At Princeton, Luther roomed the last three years with Walter Johnson in Little Hall. He was a member of Tower Club, varsity wrestling, a participant in Cane Spree, and was editor of the "Princeton Pictorial."
He served in France in WWI. On leaving Princeton, he planned to become a specialist in soil chemistry. Until his retirement in 1952 he was a member of the faculty of Texas A. & M. in its agronomy department. As our 50 Year Book stated, "The catholicity of his interests and the list of his activities since the war is amazing. To mention a few: wrestling coach, math and chemistry teacher, author, school board member, civil defense instructor, elder of the Presbyterian Church, bank president, Boy Scout master, tennis senior doubles champion, city councilman, organizer of the municipality of College Station, Tex., the Boy Scouts, and a rehabilitation center." Luther had a delightful sense of humor and we were always happy to see him at our reunions. In 1926 he married Catherine Conroy Panton, who died six weeks before his death. He is survived by a daughter, Louise, and two sons, Luther and William '63, to whom we extend our most sincere sympathy.
