Lyttleton B. Purnell III ’30

Body

LYT PURNELL, one of 1930's most devoted members, died Aug. 25, 1992, in the Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, after a long illness. In recent years, Lyt had divided his time between Baltimore and Delray Beach, Fla., where he regularly attended Class luncheons.

Lyt's career was in real estate in all of its aspects, from sales to appraisals and management and remodeling of investment properties, where his training in McCormick Hall was most beneficial. Lyt had back problems, which forced him to retire in 1971.

He came to Princeton from the Gilman School, and roomed freshman year with G. J. Finney and R. S. Carey and sophomore, junior and senior years with F. R. Kent. He was a member of the freshman soccer squad and Quadrangle Club.

Lyt was married to Josephine M. Warfield in 1940. Two sons, Lyttleton B. IV, known as Tony, and Henry W., were killed in accidents. Besides his widow, Lyt is survived by his daughter, Celia (Mrs. John E. Ball) and four granddaughters, Celia Margaret (Mrs. Richard Scott), Mary Josephine, Sherry Anne (Mrs. Richard Orr), and Laura Michelle, to whom the Class extends its profound sympathy.
