OUR LOYAL classmate Mac Carter died in Cleveland on Mar. 13, 1991, with his devoted wife of 59 years at his side. He was born in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 1, 1901, and also lived with his family in Chicago and Toledo.

He prepared for college at the Francis Parker School in Chicago. Mac transferred to Princeton as a sophomore' after his freshman year at Dartmouth. As a Princeton undergraduate, he was a member of the Triangle Club orchestra and Quadrangle Club. On the campus, he lived in 122 Little with classmates Herb Anderson and Art Sylvester.

After graduation Mac spent a year in Detroit with the motor industry. He worked for three years in Kansas for Universal Oil Products Company, before moving to the company headquarters in Chicago. He was the treasurer until 1941, when he joined Arthur G. McKee and Company Engineers and Contractors in Cleveland. He retired in 1971.

On Jan. 2, 1932, Mac married Patsy Schmidt. They had two daughters, Irene (Mrs. James L. Garard Jr. w'54) and Patricia (Mrs. William C. Hatch), and a son, Macauley Jr. '63. They had 11 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Mac was a warm and gentle family man, an ardent hunter and fisherman, and a dedicated Princetonian. His Princeton friends and associations brought him lifelong enjoyment. The Class of 1923 shares a pride in a life well lived, and share a sense of loss with his widow and family.
