MacPherson Raymond ’40
MAC RAYMOND died Christmas afternoon, at the Parker Memorial Home, with Ramsay and family close by. His compassionate leadership will be missed by his friends and associates. Mac's everproductive life included being president of his Lawrenceville graduating class where his grandfather had been headmaster, and serving as president of the Princeton Class of 1940 each undergraduate year. His proficiency in academics was equaled by his enthusiasm for playing football.
Upon graduation, Mac was employed by Dean Gauss to assist with the supervision of undergraduates. In Nov. 1942, he joined the Navy and was assigned as aide to two admirals in charge of the Bureau of Personnel. Later, he transferred to Air Combat Intelligence and was assigned to a bomber squadron. Upon discharge, he returned to Princeton's Alumni Office with Don Griffin, developing the schools and scholarships program nationwide.
When READER'S DIGEST decided to carry advertising, Mac was hired to help and subsequently became their eastern advertising manager. After 25 years, he retired to his Princeton farm, where he and Ramsay hosted six sons, a daughter, six grandchildren, and innumerable friends.
There was mutual pride between Princeton and Mac. Many of his roommates and close associates have gone before him; he grieved for them, as we do for him.
(This memorial was prepared by Mac's college roommate and faithful lifelong friend Bob Myers.)
