Maitland Lathrop Bishop Jr. ’38

Body

MAITLAND BISHOP, retired stock broker and financial analyst, died Dec. 22, 1991, in Miami, his home since 1972.

He was a member of Court Club and studied mechanical engineering. He left us at the end of sophomore year to work for J.P. Morgan & Co. In 1942 Mait joined the Coast Guard and served in the South Pacific. After discharge in early 1946, he worked for Florida banks, until 1953, then in Long Island banks until 1960, when he joined Shearson Hamill as a broker. In 1975, he returned to Florida with a federal savings and loan bank, later joining a mortgage banking firm.

He believed that if one doesn't keep busy, one atrophies, so he continued in the Coast Guard Reserve until he was retired as a captain. He served many civic and charitable organizations. He attended most major reunions, and enjoyed swimming, gardening, and his large family.

Mait is survived by his widow, the former Geraldine Scaduto, whom he married in 1948; a son James; and daughters Joan Christolini, Lorraine Douglas, and Peggy. Dr. William H. Wainwright '45 is his half-brother.
