Malcolm Dexter Haven ’24

Body

MALCOM DEXTER HAVEN, a Charleston civic leader, artist, author, and retired president of the oil equipment firm of Livingston and Haven, died Sept. 18, 1993. Mat was born in Brookline, Mass. He lived in the Chicago area until after WWII, when he moved to Charleston, where he soon became a leading citizen. He was engaged in all kinds of civic affairs including adult education, which he found most rewarding. He was head of the Republican party in Charleston County, chairman of the Office of Economic Opportunity, a member of the local country club and yacht club, senior warden of the Episcopal Church and V.P. of our class. His many Charleston friends referred to him as "that damn Yankee." He is survived by his widow, Virginia; his daughter Jocelyn Mickle; and his son Timothy. To them we extend our sympathy.
