Malcolm E Macfarlane ’27
MALCOLM F. "JESS" MACFARLANE died Jan. 14, 1993, in the Sewickley Valley Hospital in Sewickley, Penn.
Born on Sept. 2, 1906, in Pittsburgh and the son of judge James MacFarlane 1878, Jess came to Princeton from the Asheville School. At Princeton, he was a member of the freshman crew squad, Triangle Club, and Tiger Inn. He graduated with honors from the Univ. of Pittsburgh Law School and practiced law in Pittsburgh, becoming an officer of the Mellon Bank.
In WWII, he won an Army commendation as a lieutenant colonel in combat intelligence with the 58th Fighter Group. He retired from the Mellon Bank in 1961.
His hobby was world travel and biggame hunting in Kenya. The walls of his log cabin outside of Sewickley are lined with the stuffed heads of many animals.
In 1936, he married Susan P. O'Neil, who died several years ago. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. "Bonnie" Louise Walthour; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He lived at the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Center in Mars, Penn.
