Manuel Stanley Friedman ’28

MANNY FRIEDMAN died Apr. 30, 1993, in Miami. He prepared for college at Peddie School, and exercised his musical talents there and in the university orchestra at Princeton.

Manny spent most of his career in the furniture business. He worked at first with the family business, the Sanbern Upholstery Co., in Elizabeth, N.J. During WWII, he enlisted in the navy, and served as quartermaster aboard the U.S.S. MANSFIELD in the Pacific. He retired from the navy as a q.m. second class, with six battle stars and a WWII Victory Medal.

After the war, Manny was a furniture retailer in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. In 1962, he started working for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore in the disability program. Before retiring, he received a special award for his superior performance. He retired to Miami Beach, Fla., in 1975. His leisure time interests were golf, fishing, and music.

Manny maintained his interest in Princeton, and left a bequest to Princeton Univ. in his will.

The class is saddened by his death.
