Mark Lawrence ’42

Body

MARK DIED of prostate cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Aug. 24, 1991. An awardwinning copywriter, musician, and producer, he spent most of his career in advertising, writing copy and jingles for ads for many products. His most memorable and probably the longestplaying was "Wouldn't you really rather have a Buick?"

Mark came to Princeton from Andover and quickly established himself in Triangle Club. Not only was he a talented composer, but he served as president for the 194142 season. None who attended our 20th reunion will ever forget his "Lloyd George Knows My Father." Following graduation Mark served as a lieutenant in the Navy, during the war, and wrote, produced, and starred in THE SOUTH SEA SCANDALS in Noumea, New Caledonia.

After the war he performed at the Blue Angel nightclub in N.Y.C. and on television and radio broadcasts. He composed the Oscarnominated score for the film "Lisa and David" and coproduced a 1960's version of "Lord of the Flies." He also served as director of communications for U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT, founded by his father, David Lawrence '10.

To his son David, daughter Wendy, and to his brother David Jr., the Class extends its sincere sympathies.
