Martha Ingraham Bennett ’83

At Princeton, she majored in neurobiology and shared her love of cooking with the members of Terrace Club and with her “independent” dorm-mates. Involved with many plays at Theatre Intime, she made it her second home, along with her roommates of several years, Roxan Saidi, Susan Wolfe, and Carolyn Katz ’84. She will be remembered for her practicality, cheerfulness, humanism, earrings, and magenta streak.  

Uncertain of her path in life after college, she chose adventure and joined the Peace Corps’ fish-farming program in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), where she met her husband, François Bikamba. On returning to the United States, she earned a medical degree in 1994 from SUNY, Buffalo, trained in family practice at Case Western Reserve Hospital, and settled in Silver Spring, Md., in 1997. She received several awards from Kaiser Permanente for her devotion to patients and their health education.

Our hearts go out to François; their sons, Tai and Liam; her brother, Bill; her father, William B. Bennett ’58; and everyone whose lives she touched in Africa and America.
