Pete died of cancer July 19, 1991, at his home in Osprey, Fla., where he had lived for the past eight years, A breeder of thoroughbreds for more than 30 years, he had operated three horse farms in Warrenton, Va., including Broadview, where the Virginia Gold Cup steeplechase races were held. He moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1971.

A native of N.Y.C., Pete joined the Class from the Hun School but left Princeton after freshman year. His first two marriages ended in divorce.

To his widow, Lois, his son, M. Townsend, and to his two grandsons, the Class extends its sincere sympathies
