MATTHEW ARNOLD KELLY, professor emeritus of industrial and labor relations at Cornell, died Jan. 18, 1993. He was 79. He was born in N.Y.C. and earned his bachelor's degree Phi Beta Kappa at Amherst in 1936. He was a nationally distinguished arbitrator. After WWII, Dr. Kelly worked in Berlin for the Allied Control Council, easing the formulation of agreements on uniform wage and labor standards for the four occupation zones in Germany. He then returned to teach at Princeton, but left again, in 1950, to pursue work in industrial relations. But academe called again and he went to Cornell, where he served as coordinating director of Cornell's Institute of Collective Bargaining and Group Relations in N.Y.C. He is survived by his wife of 54 years; a son (Princeton '69), a daughter, a sister, and five grandchildren. To his family and friends, we extend sympathy in their great loss.
