Matthew Laurance Rue ’47

Body

Matt died Feb. 17, 1995. He entered Princeton in the Navy's V-12 program. He remained in the Navy for three years, including one year in the Philippines. Upon his return to Princeton, he studied engineering and got his degree, with high honors, in 1949. He stayed on as a graduate student and teaching assistant for another year. As a chemical engineer, he served as v.p., general manager, and as a member of the board of directors of Pine Chemicals. Later, he turned to architecture and got a degree in that profession from Penn in 1962.

At the time of his death, Matt headed his own architectural firm in Lambertville, N.J. In New Hope, Penn., where he lived, he served on the municipal zoning board. Earlier, he had served as chairman of the New Hope Planning Commission. He was also a director of the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury, Penn., and a consultant for the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

For many years, sailing was his favorite sport, and for vacations, his locale of choice was Barnegat Light, on Long Beach Island in New Jersey, where he was a member of the yacht club. His was a life of many interests, in all of which he made his mark.

To Matt's widow, Annette, his daughters, Margaret and Kristin Rue and Dancy Tangrakul; and his sons, Matthew, Charles, and Robert, the class extends its profound sympathy.
