Mead Payne ’57

Body

Mead died of a heart attack Oct. 16, 2010. He was a longtime resident of Lake Bluff, Ill., and was very attached to the area.

He was a graduate of The Hill School. At Princeton, Mead was active in rugby and track. He majored in history and joined Cottage Club. His senior-year roommates were Bill Ruckelshaus ’55 and Charles Disbrow ’58. He was a member of the 21 Club.

Much of Mead’s business was in sales. He retired from Intertoy. He was active for 30 years in Nicasa, the northern Illinois council for substance abuse, of which he also was a past president. He helped many lives. At his memorial, a large number of mourners recited the AA creed, followed by an organist playing, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

To his wife, Jane; daughter Connie; and grandchildren Dana, Grace, and Mead, the class extends its condolences.
