Body

MERRILL'S DEATH on Oct. 13, 1991, in the Holiday City section of Tom's River, N.J., Was a Surprise, although his recent medical history indicates it had to be expected. Merrill prepared at Newark Acjderny (with Griggs Adams, Red Schneider, et.al.) and at Princeton majored in politics, was a V.P. and assistant manager of Gateway Club, and roomed there with Don Ditmars his senior year. fie expected to attend Harvard Law School but spent most of his life in advertising and sales promotion, starting with R. U. Macy & Co. in New York, then B. Altman & Co., Stern Brothers, and finally working as advertising manager for John Wanamaker, some years covering both New York and Philadelphia. John Wanamaker closed the New York store in 1955, and Merrill moved to the Grand Union Co. as advertising manager of the New York region, retiring in 1973,

He married Dorothy Helen Richards in Feb. 1934. They had a son, Leslie Davis, and a daughter, Susan Ann, who survive, but Dorothy died in 1986. There are five grandchildren. Merrill was a consistent attender of our Class functions in recent years, and we will miss him.
