Michael Bliss Feldman ’66

Mike died April 17, 2024.
He came to Princeton from Central High School in Philadelphia, where he was chief justice of the student association tribunal. At Princeton, he majored in electrical engineering and belonged to the Woodrow Wilson Society.
Two weeks before receiving his BSE, Mike and a friend won the Subway Challenge, passing through all 491 New York City subway stations in 23 hours, 16 minutes, a Guinness record that still stands.
Partly because mild color blindness interfered with his electrical engineering laboratory work, Mike moved into computer science, earning master’s and doctoral degrees in that subject at the University of Pennsylvania.
In 1975, after four years at Educational Testing Service and a year in Europe, Mike joined the computer science faculty of George Washington University, where he spent the rest of his career, teaching classes at all levels, making significant contributions in research, publishing computer science textbooks, and serving in administrative roles.
After retiring from GWU, Mike and his wife, attorney and writer Ruth Tenzer Feldman, moved to Portland, Ore., then later to Oakland, Calif.
Mike is survived by Ruth; sons Benjamin and Keith; and three grandchilren. The class extends heartfelt condolences to them all.
