Michael Frederick Speers ’59

Mike was born in Lahore, Pakistan, but received his secondary education at St. Stephen’s School in Alexandria, Va. He apparently served in the military after leaving St. Stephen’s because he entered Princeton as a 23-year-old veteran. Mike’s father, Peter C. 1914, his brother, Peter C. Jr. ’44, and several uncles preceded him at Princeton. Married as an undergraduate, Mike chose not to join an eating club. He majored in politics, belonged to the Veterans Club, and worked on the staff of The Tiger magazine.

Mike worked in the Foreign Service until 1983, when he retired and moved to Weston, Vt. He was a member of the Vermont Antiquarian Booksellers Association, specializing in intelligence titles; editor and publisher of The Intelligence Quarterly, a newsletter published in the United States and the U.K.; a marketing consultant for photographic histories of the world’s major intelligence institutions; and president of the New England Chapter of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sue, and his brother. Condolences have been sent.
