Michael Griesdorf ’94

Michael died Oct. 5, 2009, after suffering an epileptic seizure.

At Princeton, Michael majored in the Woodrow Wilson School. He went on to receive a Ph.D. in international relations from Harvard.

Michael used his exceptional brilliance for public service, working first as a policy adviser for the Canadian and Ontario governments, and later joining the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations. He worked in the Congo’s most dangerous and desolate areas as part of the U.N.’s efforts to help bring stability to the region.  

Michael had returned recently to New York City, which he loved passionately, to continue his work with the U.N.  

Michael was an artistic and philosophical soul who forged deep interpersonal connections with whoever was lucky enough to come within his orbit. He will be forever missed.  

Michael is survived by his parents and sister. The class extends its deepest sympathy to them all.

Michael’s friends are establishing a memorial fund in his name through Princeton. Details will follow in the 1994 Class Notes.
