MILTON BROWN died of a heart attack Sept. 11, 1991 at his home in Bamako, Mali, Africa, where he was deputy country director with the Peace Corps.
"Brownie" was born in Belgium Aug. 13, 1924, and prepared for college at Loomis and Darien H.S. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945, and met his first wife, Anne Wells, when he was attached to the French Air Force. They were married in 1944 and had six children, the marriage later ending in divorce.
Milt received an A.A. degree from Princeton in 1947. For many years he was employed by Bunge and Born, an exportimport firm, in Argentina and in their home office in Belgium, handling the chartering of ships. in 1973 he became a development officer for NReN, a Belgian chemical fertilizer company, on site in various developing nations, retiring in 1987. In 1969 he married Deborah Underwood, and they made their permanent home in Clifton, Va.
Milt worked as country director for the I.E.S.C. in Morocco in 1988 and 1989, joined the Peace Corps in Jan. 1991, and had been in Mali since then on what he termed "one last fling before retiring for good." Milt was a member of the Royal Ocean Racing Club of London, the BelgianAmerican Educational Foundation, and the Princeton Club of Washington, D.C. Also Princetonians were his father, Milton M. Brown '13; son Milton M. 11173; uncle Bruce W. Brown '06; and cousin Bruce Brown Jr. '49.
Survivors include his wife, six childrenMilton 111, Peter U., Michael B., Anne B. Mires, Kathleen 11, Rendle, and Erica Aitken; two stepdaughters, Catherine R. Meerbergen and Abigail U. Reponen; two sisters, Erica B. Miller and Elizabeth B. Aitken; and ten grandchildren. We extend our deepest sympathies to them all.
