After graduating from Princeton and the U. of Pennsylvania school of medicine, (his father was a physician) he served as a flight surgeon in WWI. He practiced internal medicine in his home town of Springfield, taking an active part in medical affairs. He served as chief of staff at Community Hospital and Mercy Hospital. He was past pres. of the Polo Club, the Springfield Country Club. He was also a member of the Springfield Rotary Club, the Springfield Museum of Art, VanDyke Club, University Club of Springfield, and the Zanesfield Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. The activity on which he seemed to focus most intensely was the Boy Scours of America-the Tecumseh Council. He received every award a scout council can bestow on a strong, loyal supporter: Silver Beaver, Silver Antelope, and Order of the Arrow, and as an additional token of the respect and gratitude the council felt for Bud, a lake on the scout reserve was named for him! Bud is survived by his wife of 17 years, Rose O'Brien, two daughters, Margaret Passon and Peg Cooke, and two grandchildren. His first wife, Frances, died in 1982.
In reviewing his broad participation in community affairs, one can be certain that he will be missed by his family, his patients, and his many friends in Springfield. The class extends its sympathy to his family and the many people who depended on him.
