Mortimer Fleishhacker III ’54

Mort Fleishhacker died Oct. 25, 2011, at Davies Medical Center in San Francisco of complications from a series of strokes.

Born in San Francisco, he graduated from the Webb School of California. At Princeton, he majored in chemical engineering. After graduation, he served in the Army. Mort then earned an M.B.A. degree from UC Berkeley in 1957, after which he was involved in a variety of business ventures. He served on the board of directors of Natomas Corp. and American President Lines. His primary interest centered upon serving his community on boards of organizations involved in low-cost housing, economic development, theater, arts, international affairs, conservation, city planning, and good government.

Mort was a member of the Fleishhacker Foundation Board for many decades. He served as president of Temple Emanu-El in San Francisco and led a campaign to rebuild its historic structure.

Mort was an energetic tennis player, hiker, bicyclist, boater, and sailor. He and his family traveled extensively to all corners of the earth.

The class extends its sympathy to Francoise, his wife of 56 years; daughters Leslie and Sandi; his son, Marc; and their eight grandchildren.
